National Theatre! Matthew teaches drama at New College, Swindon and has been given the task of directing students (with the assistance of Becky) in a new play as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival. Connections invites schools, colleges and youth theatres from across the UK to perform in new plays that have been written by some of the country’s top playwrights.
New College’s entry has been accepted and they have been given
‘Tomorrow I’ll Be Happy’ by Jonathan Harvey, a tough and uncompromising look at a homophobic hate crime and the repercussions on a group of friends. Matthew and Becky head to the National in November to do a weekend of workshops and meetings including a chat with their ‘Professional Partners’ Salisbury Playhouse who will be hosting the production at their venue sometime between March - May 2013. The production could then have a date at the National Theatre itself when the best Connections productions appear early next summer.
‘Tomorrow I’ll Be Happy’ will debut at New College in February 2013 where Whole Hog’s first production of 2013 also launches. ’Wetwork’ a new Black Comedy by Darren Little, will be seen alongside the NT Connections entry at a festival of new one act plays being performed at the college's Phoenix Theatre. Rehearsals begin next month so keep looking at the website for full production details.
