Becky and Fenella have been longing to work together again after both appearing in JANE EYRE last year. Fenella was a huge fan of Jane Shepard’s plays and her unique feminine voice. NINE had always been a play that she wanted to act in or direct so in reading it we realised it would work perfectly as one part of a double bill, as it runs for just over 45 minutes. The second play would be another Cann and Clift creation and an attempt to produce a comic play to balance the dark subject matter of NINE. INTERVIEW is a sideways look at facing meetings with the bank manager or applying for the dream job!
So, after our read-through last week we face our first real rehearsal and the chance to start exploring NINE. The setting is an intriguing, two woman chained to the floor with collars around their necks. We never fully learn who they are or what they are doing but there are many clues within the text that suggest their story. It is very dark and at the same time moving and even funny in places and a real challenge for Becky and Fenella to bring to life.
Further rehearsal blogs will appear as we approach the 18th September performance date...
