for a director. Some director’s will be totally prepared with notes on character, design, blocking etc. Others will ‘go with the flow’ and see where rehearsals take them. Actors will want a director to do both. They want to be given firm
directions and a clear vision but equally they want the freedom to bring
something to the process and try out their own ideas.
With one month until the opening of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’I find myself working in this way. Trying out my own ideas and thoughts on the play whilst taking on board the actors ‘wants’ and ‘needs’. Last night we ran the first half of our edited version which ran at an hour and a quarter… I thought it would be only an hour so, a bit of work to do there!
Our Sicilian setting seems to really work with the plays themes and characters and the actors have caught this in their characterisations. Still two scenes left to block and then we will be into running the play in the final 3 weeks.
