To date, I have had the pleasure of working with Whole Hog in a stage adaptation of Jane Eyre which was performed at the Gaeity Theatre, Isle of Man as part of the 2012 Manx Amateur Drama Festival. I said just now that I had the pleasure and quite frankly, I mean it! From day one of rehearsals I knew I was in good hands with Matt (director). His knowledge of theatre seems endless and his ability to put his actors at ease is really a blessing, especially when bringing a fairly large company of actors together, most of which have never met or worked together before!
I played Edward Rochester in the production and the very capable Becky played opposite me as Jane Eyre. At 21, Becky is incredibly insightful as an actress and always has a clear understanding of the characters she plays. I had the chance to see Matt & Becky perform in their production of 'Dream as you live' at a festival in 2011 and I was very impressed to say the least. I knew then that I would like to work for these guys in the future. Just over a year later and I've had my first experience of Whole Hog!
I must have done something right as I've just been cast again in their next production! A double bill of one act plays called Suicide Notes. I won't go into details about the show as the website has all the info on it, but i must mention the character I'll be playing, a clown with suicidal tendencies! There's one thing about the Whole Hog team that I really like and that's the diversity of characters they come up with when writing new material. I'm looking forward to getting started with rehearsals next week and getting my juggling skills back up to standard!
As an actor I believe it really is all about who you know and I'm very happy to know Whole Hog!
