Festival of One Act Plays.
This was our third year at the festival and we always enjoy
working on the beautiful and intimate Elizabethean style stage of the Unicorn Theatre in Abingdon.
We performed another new one act play, ‘Only in the Dark!’ The cast performed admirably and adjudicator Paul Fowler gave kind words about the production and led a lively debate about the nature of theatre and the play. As an absurdist piece it raises more questions than it answers and it was interesting to hear the audience’s different takes on the play and what they thought it represented. We were thrilled to be invited back to the Gala evening where we would perform the play again.
After the performance we were voted runners up in the ‘Punters Prize’.
This is voted by the audience members and reflects the play they most enjoyed
over the festival week. The fact that such an obscure piece had made them think, not only about the themes the play could explore, but also about the nature of theatre itself particularly pleased us
We ended the evening with a wonderful buffet only slightly marred by the fact we discovered that organiser Mike Davies didn’t make his wonderful pate but bought it! For two years we were told it was homemade and the taste was amazing…we still ate tons of it!
‘Only in the Dark!’ will next appear at the Wallingford Drama Festival at the Corn Exchange in Wallingford on June 19th where we shall meet most of the companies from Abingdon again as they will also enter their productions.
