But everyone is in good spirits and we are all very much looking forward to our final performance of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’.
Our time working as part of the RSC Open Stages Project has been great and producing a full scale Shakespeare play after small cast plays has certainly been an exciting challenge. But it makes for diversity in our work and we will now go back to small scale work for a while before getting the itch to do a larger project.
In June, Whole Hog will return to the Oxfordshire Drama Network Festival in Abingdon and the Wallingford Corn Exchange Drama Festival where we won Best Production last year with ‘Funny Ha Ha!’ This year we are staging another new one act play (Whole Hog’s ninth) and one that was written 2 years ago. ‘Only in the Dark!’ Is an absurdist comedy very much influenced by our first ever one act play ‘Directions’ as well as Samuel Beckett’s ‘Waiting for Godot’.
After several cast possibilities over the past two years, we finally have actors Darren Little, Maxwell Sly and Dom Bray who will play the three protagonists. Dom made his acting debut for Whole Hog in our Halloween show ‘The Call of Cthulhu’ after years of stirring technical work and Maxwell comes off the back of a triumphant All England Theatre Festival. He won Best Junior Performance for his role in ‘Piège’a new play that he also co-wrote and was staged by New College Drama Students. Meanwhile, Darren has been enjoying having his debut play ‘Wetwork’ published by Roister Doister Theatre Publishers alongside ‘Funny Ha Ha!’
All three actors will have a read-through of the play whilst on the Isle of Man and rehearsals will begin on our return. Until then here’s ‘Cair Vie! ‘To our
Manx adventure…
